Volunteer FAQ's
What do I need to know to make this the best day ever?
- Dress for the weather. We go on rain or shine!
- If you're volunteering on the course, we encourage you to bring a lunch and water. You will receive a bottle of water and snack at check in, but you may get hungry and thirsty at your post!
- Know your location beforehand. If you have questions – ask!
Where can I park?
There is plenty of free parking at Waldameer; please do not leave valuables in your car. After your shift, please join us at the party!
Do I get a beer?
Volunteers age 21+ will receive a free beer located near the finish line at the end of their shift. Bring your photo ID to volunteer check in to receive a beer wrist band.
Where do I report the day of the event?
Volunteers working on the course (hydration/nutrition stations, obstacle monitors, start line, etc.) need to check in at the tent located inside the parking lot on the east side of Peninsula Drive (just below the Tom Ridge Center). Please check-in 1 hour before your scheduled shift to pick up your map and your assignment before continuing down Peninsula Drive to the park.
Volunteers working at Waldameer (registration, bag check, finish line, etc.) should check in at Waldameer 30 minutes before your shift.
What if I need help at the event?
If you need assistance at the event, please contact your captain. They will have a radio to contact help. You will be given your captain’s name and contact information before the event.
Where can I learn more?
All the information you need to be the best volunteer will be included in our Volunteer Packet. Once this is ready, we'll email it to you and include it on our website. If you have questions in the meantime, reach out to us at BarberBeast@BarberNI.org, and someone from our team will help you.
Volunteers can also pick up their t-shirts in advance during packet pick up outside of the Barber National Institute north entrance on Wednesday, September 6 from 4-7PM and Thursday, September 7 from 4-7PM.
